ESST
Everybody for the disabled
On 17th Genuary 2009 at the "Excelsior Hotel" of Cosenza the
Leonardo da Vinci ESST international meeting has started with the
purpose to sensitize the people at improving and integrating people
with special needs in our society. At this meeting, which lasted
three days, some Calabrian schools as "Liceo Classico B.Telesio" of
Cosenza, the "Liceo Scentifico Galileo Galilei"of Trebisacce and the
"ITCL. Palma" of Corigliano together with onlus international
associations (Italian,Greek and Turkish) have taken part. Each of us
presented some power-point works to show our own city and schools in
order to compare our different ways of living, and in particular the
associations wanted to underline their aims at favouring social
inclusion.
We have also discussed about searching tourist structures suitable
to people with disabilities with the final intention to make an
e_book with all suitable tourist places indicatons to satify the
needs of people with special needs. We, the students of Liceo
Classico B. Telesio took part to such an initiative with a
multimidial presentation to show what our institute offers;our
presentation has been particularly exciting for us even because our
audience was not only Italian but also international and with a
better knoweledge of the English language. But,thanks to the help of
our teacher Catia Mele we have been successeful to win our timidity
and to feel at ease in such a new context. After our performance all
the presents have complemented us for our "excellent English".Later
we have talked about the different current regulations in various
countries involved in the activity regarding people with special
needs.
At the end of the day those present have filled in a questionnaire
exspressing their opinions for the future of the initiative.
This has been a special occasion for us,full of emotions, where the
necessities of those who are least fortunate have been privileged, tryng
to break down the barriers that divide the normal people from those
disabled. They, despite their difficulty, mustn't feel inferior,as it
often happens,on the contrary their experience of life is
constructive because diversity is a source of richness and personal
and collective growth.

…ABOUT A DAY
On the 19th of
January 2009, some teachers from Athens and Adana in Turkey, visited
our class. We were rather mad curious and excited from the fact that
two cultures so far away, so different could meet in the 2nd G of
our Liceo Classico B.Telesio in Cosenza. Our class, in fact, has
been chosen to represent the Institute in the project Leonardo
ESST(Exploring Sinergies for a Special Tourism), whose first
meeting has been held in Cosenza from 17th to 19th of January. This
Project was born from the need of speaking about giving equal
opportunities in the touristic field, with particular care to the
people with specials needs and their social inclusion. The principal
aim is to investigate on the facilities which exist for the people
with other abilities as tourists. The reason why our class has been
involved in this project is due to the experience we daily live next
to a person with specials needs.
The day of the
visit started with an avalanche of emotions from the beginning: we
offered our guests some typical cakes of the Bruttian tradition. A
first embarrassing moment prevented us from speaking adequately with
them, but thanks to the typical cordiality of Southern people and
their interest in our culture, we could start a funny and effective
discussion on multiple and varied points (school system, traditions,
even cooking and language). Their attention has been focused more
than other, on our school organization and integration of pupils
with special needs, noticing some differences and analogies with
system. The meeting finished with the ritual of photos and the
exchange of greetings. The next meeting will be held in Athens next
August 2009.
